Sophie joined the Consumer & Leisure team in 2007 after eight years in private equity and corporate finance in the European retail and consumer goods sectors. Sophie started her career with Goldman Sachs’ consumer and retail team and joined sector-focused private equity fund Change Capital Partners in 2003. 

Sophie graduated with a business degree from ESSEC in Paris and is fluent in English and Spanish as well as her native French.

Ian has led HgCapital since 1990 having joined in 1988. He previously spent ten years with 3i plc, in London and Dublin.

Ian has made over forty investments across a wide range of industries.

Ian served as chairman of the Investor Relations Committee of the British Venture Capital Association and is a frequent speaker on private equity.  He has a degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Oxford University.

Julian joined HgCapital in 2007. He previously worked in Lehman Brothers’ Investment Banking Division, both within the Financial Institutions M&A practice and in Corporate Equity Derivatives Structuring.

Julian holds an MSc in Finance & Banking from Münster University, Germany.

Steven joined the client services and fund raising team in 2003.  He previously spent three years with Morgan Stanley, working in the financial sponsor and global capital market teams.

Steven holds a degree in History from the University of Bristol.

Trevor joined a predecessor company of HgCapital in 1991.  After eight years in the UK he founded the firm’s German business in 1999, returning to London in 2005.

Trevor has made investments in the UK, Germany, Netherlands and USA, including Fabory, FTSA, Hirschmann, FTE, Trados, Dechra Pharmaceuticals, Patientline, British Technology Group, Inference Corporation and CitiFlyer.

Trevor qualified as a chartered accountant with PricewaterhouseCoopers in 1986.  Prior to joining HgCapital he spent two years with KPMG in Hong Kong and three years in the Mergers and Acquisitions Department of Morgan Crucible (UK).  He has an MA in Economics from Trinity College, Cambridge.

Derk joined in 2004 from the Merrill Lynch Investment Banking Group in London, where he worked as an analyst in the mergers & acquisitions team.

Derk was involved in the investment in SiTel Semiconductor and is a Director on its supervisory board.

Derk has a degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Oxford University.

Martin is head of both the Munich office and the industrials team.

Martin joined in 2001 having spent six years in leveraged finance at Royal Bank of Scotland where he was a founder member of the team that commenced its German activities in 1998. He focused on large cross-border transactions and was involved in the provision of both senior debt and mezzanine finance to companies including Vianova Resins, Grohe, Vantico, TMD Friction and Messer Griesheim.  Martin started his career at HSBC working in its leveraged finance team before joining County Natwest Merchant Bank. 
 
Martin was on the board of FTE Automotive prior to the sale of FTE in May 2005.  He is a director on the boards of  Schenck MPT, W.E.T. Automotive Systems and Hirschmann Electronics.

He has a degree in Economics and Philosophy from University College London.

Stephen joined in 1998.  He is head of the finance, fund administration, human resources and IT functions. 

Stephen qualified as an accountant while at Prudential Assurance Company where he spent ten years. During that time he held various financial and management accounting roles within Prudential's general and life insurance divisions, the group’s tax department and the fund accounting business.

Jonathan joined in 2006. He previously worked at Mercer Management Consulting for four years on strategy and operational issues across a variety of sectors.

Jonathan holds a Masters in Engineering from Cambridge University and an MBA with distinction from INSEAD.

Robert de Laszlo joined HgCapital in 2005 and has over 5 years of accounting, corporate finance advisory and private equity experience.

He is a chartered accountant who started his career at Arthur Andersen where he supervised a number of audits at client sites, leading teams covering investment management, private equity, corporate finance, insurance brokerage and pension schemes. He then joined Deloitte & Touche where he was a member of the Corporate Finance Advisory Business Modelling Team specialising in the energy and infrastructure sectors.

Rob both worked on and manages the Tir Mostyn, Sorne, Wind Direct and Picardy Wind investments. He sits on the Wind Direct advisory committee.

Robert holds a degree in Natural Sciences (economics and mathematics) from Durham University.

Jean-Pierre joined HgCapital in January 2008 from GE, where he was responsible for developing and implementing strategic growth projects across a range of businesses.

Before GE, Jean-Pierre worked at Morgan Stanley, where he was part of the investment banking division focused on financial institution clients. He started his career at ABN AMRO in the corporate finance department. 

Jean-Pierre holds a degree in finance from the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland and an MBA from INSEAD. He is a native Dutch speaker and is fluent in English, German and French.

Lindsay is head of the Healthcare team.

Lindsay joined in 1989 from Coopers & Lybrand where he advised on venture capital-backed transactions within its corporate finance department, having qualified as a chartered accountant.

He has been responsible for over 20 investments including Castlebeck, Tunstall, ClinPhone, Pharma-Bio Research, Priory Healthcare, Profiad, Verigen and MedNova and is a director on the board of Voyage Healthcare.

In 2003/04 Lindsay was a member of the Healthcare Industries Task Force's R&D working group, which made recommendations to strengthen the UK as an attractive location for R&D and manufacturing investment in the healthcare sector.

Lindsay holds a degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Imperial College, London.

Craig has over 16 years experience in advising institutional investors on global alternative investment strategies. Professional responsibilities have included investment acquisitions and disposals, portfolio management, financial analysis, fundraising and client service.

In addition to having overall responsibility for client services and fundraising, Craig coordinates the firm’s co-investment activities, supervises the firm’s investment marketing function and oversees a number of legacy portfolio investments.

Craig is a frequent speaker on private equity and holds a degree in Entrepreneurial Studies from Babson College.

Richard joined HgCapital in 2004.  He had previously gained many years of experience as an investment banker, advising companies in a variety of growth sectors. For the last ten years he has focused on the TMT sector.

In addition to this specialisation, Richard works with all sector teams providing senior level support in transaction execution. He has particular expertise in public-to-private deals. He also has overall responsibility for HgCapital’s relationships with banks and financial institutions.

Recent transactions have included the public-to-private buyouts of Visma, SHL and Computer Software Group and HgCapital’s investments in Iris, Paragon and Addison/PBSG.  Richard holds non-executive roles at Visma, Addison, Bertram Group and Beacon Capital Holdings.

Richard has a degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Oxford University.

Joachim joined HgCapital in 2006 as portfolio manager.

He previously worked for ten years at DaimlerChrysler where he held several positions including Head of Controlling (DC Truck Group), Director Corporate Strategy (DC Commercial Vehicle Division), CFO Transmissions (DC Commercial Vehicle Division) and Senior Manager in the M&A department of DC.  Prior to that he was a management consultant with PriceWaterhouseCoopers and worked in the Treuhandanstalt, Berlin, the former holding company for all of the East German industry.

As one cornerstone for Hg's portfolio management strategy, Joachim Drees is a director on the board of FTSA (First Technology Safety and Analysis), Fabory, Mondo and Schleich.

Joachim holds a degree in Economics and Business Administration with majors in planning/strategy, controlling and mechanical engineering from the University of Stuttgart, Germany, as well as an MBA from Portland State University, Portland, Oregon. 

Karsten joined in 2001 from McKinsey & Company in Munich where he spent six years working within the electronics and telecommunications sector.

Karsten was a director on the board of FTE Automotive prior to the sale of FTE in May 2005. He is a director on the board of Schenck MPT and W.E.T. Automotive Systems.

He holds a first class degree and PhD in Chemistry from Ludwig Maximilian University, Munich.

Nic is Chief Executive and head of the TMT team.

He has 17 years experience of the private equity and venture capital industry, and joined HgCapital in 2001.  He was previously with Geocapital Partners where, as general partner, he founded its European business and, prior to that, was head of Barclays Private Equity’s IT and telecoms team.  He started his career at 3i plc.

Nic’s lead investments have included IRIS Software & CS Group plc (collectively sold for £500m in 2007), Xyratex ($410m flotation on NASDAQ in 2004), Geneva Technology (sold to Convergys Corporation for $693 million in March 2001), NextGenTel (a Norwegian broadband service provider, floated and then sold to Telia Sonera for €300m).  Geneva Technology won the European Technology Forum and British Venture Capital Association awards for “Deal of the Year” in 2001/02.  Nic was also involved in the flotations of Autologic plc and of Stepstone.com.

He is a director on the boards of Axiom and Visma, and co-led investments in Addison Software, Rolfe&Nolan and SiTel Semiconductor.

Nic holds a First Class degree in Electronic Engineering and was an IEEE and National Engineering Council scholar.

With a degree in Engineering and Management from Durham University and a subsequent postgraduate qualification in Production Engineering and Management from Cambridge, Frances began her career in manufacturing.

In 1983 she moved into the venture capital and private equity sector, initially with 3i and from 1988 with the embryonic private equity division of Mercury Asset Management plc. In 2000 this became the independent business HgCapital, which now has some €2.7 billion of funds under management. Frances is Deputy Chairman and Chief Investment Officer.

Frances has worked with the management and boards of many different companies in many sectors and at many stages of their development over her 24 years in private equity.

Florencia joined HgCapital's Business Services team in 2006. Prior to that, she worked at Bain & Co. within both the Private Equity and Strategy practices. Prior to Bain, Florencia held investment banking positions with Morgan Stanley in London and JPMorgan in New York.

Florencia received her MBA/MA with honours from The Wharton School/The Lauder Institute, and had an MS with honours in Industrial Engineering from the Instituto Technologico de Buenos Aires (ITBA). Florencia is fluent in Spanish and French.

John became HgCapital’s legal counsel and compliance officer in 2001.  He was formerly a partner at Lovells, the international law firm, where he worked for over 30 years, more than half of that time specialising in private equity.

John holds a degree in Law from Cambridge University.

Alastair joined in 2006, having previously worked with the UK mergers and acquisitions team at Deloitte and with Zilkha Venture Partners in the US.

Alastair was an MBA scholar at London Business School and graduated summa cum laude in History and Archaeology from Edinburgh University.

Robin is head of the Services sector.

Robin joined HgCapital in 2001 from ISIS Private Equity where he worked for four years.  He qualified as a chartered accountant with Arthur Andersen and gained a first in Economics and Accounting from Bristol University.

Robin led the investment and is a director of SHL and Clarion Events. He has also been involved in the investments of Boosey & Hawkes and Eagle Rock Entertainment.

Vincent joined HgCapital in 2006 from the UBS Investment Bank, where he worked in the European Mergers & Acquisitions and Leveraged Finance teams.

Vincent holds master degrees in financial economics and quantitative economics from Maastricht University, The Netherlands.

Richard heads the Consumer and Leisure team. He joined in 1998 having worked for five years as a strategy consultant with Braxton Associates.

Richard has been involved in the acquisitions of Americana International, The Sanctuary Spa, Bertram Books, Travelsphere, Hoseasons and SGI and several disposals. Richard currently sits on the board of Americana International Holdings Limited.

Richard holds an MBA from London Business School and a degree in Business Management.

Ian joined in 2006 from KPMG Corporate Finance where he focused on mid-market transactions in the leisure sector.  He advised both corporate and private equity houses on acquisitions and disposals in the UK and Continental Europe.  Since 2007 Ian has been based in our Amsterdam office and focuses on transactions across Europe. 

Ian qualified as a chartered accountant with KPMG and has a degree in Economics from Southampton University.

Tom is head of the Renewable Energy team. 

Tom joined HgCapital in 2004 and has more than 15 years' experience of investing in renewable and conventional power projects and development companies. He was formerly co-head of Allianz Private Equity's renewable energy team.  Prior to that Tom was with the EIF Group, established in 1987 by John Hancock as the first private equity fund manager for power generation.

Tom spent the early part of his career practising corporate law in the US, including two years as the general counsel of a renewable energy company.

Tom's investment experience includes providing equity finance to over 1,400MW of biomass, hydro, wind, waste-to-energy, coal and gas-fired plant and numerous project development companies. He has led transactions in the UK, France, Ireland, Poland, Israel and the US.

Tom led the fundraising efforts for HgCapital Renewable Power Partners. He also led HgCapital's investments in Wind Direct, Tir Mostyn and Picardy Wind and co-led the Sorne wind farm investment and is a director on their boards. Tom is a frequent speaker on renewable energy and infrastructure finance and investing.

He has degrees from Northwest University and Fordham University School of Law.

Anke joined in 2008. She previously worked for McKinsey & Company in Berlin where she mainly worked in the pharmaceutical  and chemical industry including projects for PE firms.

She holds a degree and PhD in Pharmacy from the Universities of Würzburg and Frankfurt respectively.

Pär joined in 2008 from Citigroup in London, where he spent two years in the Nordic mergers and acquisitions team.

Pär holds an MSc in finance from the Stockholm School of Economics.

Eric joined HgCapital in January 2008 from Daimler AG where he worked as CFO for midsized affiliates in Germany and abroad. In this role he was responsible for numerous restructuring and operational improvement projects. Before his CFO role he worked as senior manager in the corporate M&A department responsible for numerous transactions worldwide.

Eric is a member of our portfolio management team and is a director on the board of SLV, Casa Reha and WET.

Eric holds a law degree from the University of Vienna in Austria and an MBA from Erasmus University in Rotterdam. He is a native German speaker and fluent in English, Dutch and Spanish.

Jean joined HgCapital in May 2007 from ING Bank in Amsterdam, where he was vice president in the project finance team. Over the last two years, Jean has worked on several transactions across Europe both in the renewable and conventional energy sectors.

Prior to ING, Jean worked at Oliver Wyman, a strategy consulting firm, where he specialised in corporate risk management with a focus on energy companies. Jean started his career at Calyon in the project and export finance department where he was responsible for the Brazilian market.

Jean holds an MSc Eng in Chemical Engineering from Ensic Nancy (France) and an MBA from INSEAD. He is a native French speaker and is fluent in English and Spanish and conversant in Portuguese.

Luigi joined the Renewable Power team of HgCapital in July 2008. He previously worked at Goldman Sachs in London in the investment banking division and at McKinsey & Company in Milan.

Luigi holds a double degree in engineering from Politecnico di Milan and Ecole Centrale Paris, and a MBA with high distinction from Harvard Business School.

He is a native Italian speaker, is fluent in English and French and is conversant in Spanish.

Luis Joined HgCapital in September 2008 from Credit Suisse, where he worked as an M&A Associate at the European Energy Group focusing on the European power, utilities and renewables sectors. Prior to Credit Suisse Luis worked for BCG, where he advised industrial clients and financial sponsors on corporate strategy and strategic M&A due diligence.

Luis holds a degree in Business Administration and Law from ICADE – Universidad Comillas in Madrid, and an M. S. from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service (Fulbright Scholar), where he focused on energy policy and economics. A native Spanish speaker, Luis is fluent in English, German and French and is conversant in Portuguese.

Jill joined in 2000. She acquired considerable knowledge of the healthcare industry at SmithKline Beecham and, prior to that, at LEK Consulting where she worked for four years.

Jill has been involved in the acquisitions of Castlebeck, Pharma Bio Research and Voyage Healthcare and in follow-on investments in Alizyme and Profiad.  She sits on the board of Voyage Healthcare.

She holds a degree in Economics from Bristol University and an MBA from Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University, Chicago.

Sutha joined HgCapital in 2006 and has been working in the Portfolio Management, Client Services and Renewable Energy teams.

He previously worked for Mercer Management Consulting in New York, where he advised clients in the telecommunications, aviation and retail sectors.

Sutha graduated with honours from Harvard College, specializing in Cognitive Neuroscience.

Emma joined HgCapital in early 2005 as our HR Manager.  She joined us with nearly six years experience of working in the HR profession which she gained at Clifford Chance.

Emma is MCIPD qualified and has completed a Post-Graduate Certificate in Human Resource Management at the Thames Valley University.  She has a degree in English Literature from Nottingham Trent University.

Philipp joined in 2000 from Frontier Economics where he advised corporate clients and governments on financial, economic and strategic issues.

Philipp sits on the board of DocMorris and was also involved in the investments in Verigen, Castlebeck and Pharma Bio-Research.

Philipp has masters degrees in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Oxford University and in Economics from the LSE.

Sam Senbanjo joined HgCapital in 2006. He joined from KPMG where he spent the last two years within their transaction services team having previously spent 3 years within the corporate finance and audit departments of Baker Tilly.

Sam holds a Masters in Electronic and Software Engineering from the University of Birmingham and is also a qualified Chartered Accountant.

Fiona joined HgCapital in early 2007 and is responsible for the Marketing function.

Prior to this, she worked for three years at Sainsbury’s as strategy manager. During her career, she has held positions with an international focus in both marketing and strategy across a number of different companies, including KPMG, WPP, Royal Mail International and Eurostar.

Fiona has a degree in Modern Languages from Oxford University and an MBA from Insead.

Lisa, who is in charge of the portfolio management team, joined in 1999.  She was previously at LucasVarity for three years where, as Director of Strategy and Business Planning, she was closely involved in the disposal of LucasVarity to TRW.  Prior to that she was a management consultant with both Kalchas and Bain & Co.

Lisa was involved in the investments in Profiad, Tunstall, Newchurch and Match. She is also a director on the board of SHL, Achilles and Visma, and a non-executive director of Remploy.

Lisa holds a degree in Human Sciences from Oxford University.

Emma joined in 2001 and has 10 years of private equity and strategic consulting experience. She orginally joined HgCapital in the Technology, Media and Telecommunications Team.

Prior to joining HgCapital, Emma worked with Morse Group where she was a founding member of the venture management team.  She previously spent three years with Arthur Andersen Business Consulting, developing strategy for large blue-chip organisations and fast-growing technology companies throughout Europe.

Emma initiated the effort to create HgCapital's renewable energy team and HgCapital Renewable Power Partners. She led the Aufwind and Relight investments, co-led the Sorne investment and was involved in the Wind Direct, Tir Mostyn and Picardy Wind investments.

Emma is a director on the boards of Wind Direct, Tir Mostyn, Picardy Wind and the Sorne wind farm.

She has a degree in History from Cambridge University.

Nick is part of the Portfolio Management Team.

Nick joined in 1989 after six years with Touche Ross where he qualified as a chartered accountant and conducted various acquisition reviews and corporate investigations.

Nick has been responsible for the investments in Raymarine, Greycoat Estates, Dechra Pharmaceuticals and Thomas Walter. He has also overseen the flotations of Dechra Pharmaceuticals, Patientline and Raymarine, and is a non-exec director of Americana and SiTel.

Nick holds a degree in Economics from Cambridge University.

Mark joined HgCapital in 2006. He was previously at Bain & Company, the consultancy, where he advised on some of Europe’s largest private equity transactions involving companies in healthcare, consumer products, industrials and telecommunications.  His work in the corporate practice focused on long term strategy for energy and industrials companies. He also advised high net worth individuals on investment opportunities in developing markets.

Mark has a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from University College, Oxford.

Justin joined in 2002. He previously worked for Goldman Sachs and Deloitte & Touche.

Justin is a director on the boards of Hirschmann Electronics and Hofmann-Menüe. He was also involved in the exit of FTE Automotive, which was sold in May 2005, and in the investments in AP Automotive and Schenck MPT.

He holds a degree in Economics and Business Administration from the University of Cologne.

Dominik joined in 2005 from Merrill Lynch, where he worked as an analyst in the mergers and acquisitions team.

Dominik graduated from Witten/Herdecke University with a degree in Economics and Business Administration.

Ed joined HgCapital 2006 from JPMorgan where he spent two years as an analyst in the UK Mergers and Acquisitions team.

He has advised on over £1 billion of M&A transactions in the industrial and real estate sectors and was involved in the initial public offerings of companies in the mining and technology industries.

Ed was involved in HgCapital's investments in Aufwind and Picardy Wind.

Ed graduated from the University of Cambridge with an MSc in Natural Sciences.
